Drop dead gorgeous drop zone!
Due to moving the TV above the fireplace as part of our recent fireplace makeover, I was able to move the bar cabinet away from the door and make us a much needed drop zone.
Because we have no coat closet we were in need of a place for guests to hang jackets and drop their bags. I created that by adding a bench, coat hooks, and a small mirror near the front door.
This was a pretty cost effective little addition. The bench is from Amazon at $119, the mirror from Hobby Lobby at 40% off came in around $35, the wooden round coat hooks are from CB2 and were very affordable at $15 for 3. I already had the pillow and market bag.
I chose each piece with intention. I wanted them to be cohesive with the overall living room design. The gold on the bench ties in with the gold legs of the coffee table.
I specifically wanted a black metal framed mirror to tie in with the black metal legs of the console table in front of the large window.
The wooden coat hooks play into the wood of the bar cabinet, the mantel and the antique door in the corner.
The blue in the pillow draws from the navy sofa and adds a pop of color to the otherwise neutral palette of this spot.
If you're adding to an existing design be sure to keep in mind that the pieces you pick need to fit with the current design so the space feels cohesive, and not like you've just dropped in stuff willy-nilly.
Same goes for creating a new design for your space. All the pieces you choose don't have to match or even be in the same style, but they should have some element that ties them all together.
This little drop zone really does it for me, it looks great and it's functional. My idea of good design.
