It's all black and white

At least on my front porch – ha!

I was ready for the holidays and all the hustle and bustle that goes with them to be on their way. I love the decorations when they go up, and admit that things are a little less magical without the twinkle of the lights, but the longer they are up the more you get used to it, it loses some of its luster.

I’m always ready for a change of seasons, that’s part of the reason I love living in the southeast, we pretty much get all the seasons – maybe not at the correct time, but they eventually show up.

To freshen things up for January I went with a black and white theme on my front porch. I picked up a white metal wreath at Hobby Lobby and added the black and white herringbone bow. I love the way it turned out – it’s so crisp and really pops against our blue door.

I changed out my welcome mat to this one that I picked up at Target. They have really good prices on these mats. Plus this one has a pineapple on it, the traditional symbol of welcome and good cheer!

The chair cushions went back to the black and white I had for most of last year. Looks like they are getting a little faded, I’ll change them out come this spring.

I’ve gotten a lot of mileage out of this rosemary plant – I like the idea of being able to have something green on the porch pretty much all year, and I do use it for cooking too. I put it in the old galvanized bucket and moved it on top of the table.

I painted this sign several years ago and thought it would go great with the black and white theme. To me it's kind of whimsical with the funny glasses and eyes!

Keeping these box woods at the front door also keeps some additional greenery on the porch to complement the black and white.

Things in life aren’t always black and white, but they will be on our front porch for a little while.
