Take a seat

And I’ll tell you the story of a girl and a chair.

I’m quite sure there are folks out there that will see this chair and go WTF? I’m aware – it’s not for everyone.

I found it in an antique mall – the fabric instantly appealed to me. It had character, it made a statement. But – I couldn’t think of anywhere in my house to use it – so I didn’t get it.

Until the next day.

It was still on my mind the next morning, and one of my steadfast rules is if it’s been 24 hours and you are still thinking about it – you go back and get it. So I did.

It’s not a very comfortable chair, the springs could use some work. And since I really didn’t have a place for it – it’s been moved around several times. It finally ended up in the small spare room. That’s where it stayed for over a year.

When I decided I was turning that space into a home office, I knew I wanted to incorporate green into the plan. Green is having a moment, and I don’t have a lot of green in my house, so it seemed like as good a place as any to add some.

As I was clearing out the furniture to start planning the space, I realized this chair would be the jumping off point for my color scheme – shades of green, white and let’s throw in some pink.

The wall color I chose is Vale Mist by Benjamin Moore and it matches very closely the lighter shade of green in the chair.

I like having a piece of fabric or a pillow or something to use as an inspiration piece when I start a new design. If I feel like I’m stuck or getting off track, I can refer back to it, and it reminds me of the vision I had for the space.

When I reveal the full room makeover – I hope you’ll think this chair has finally found its perfect spot.

Till then, cheers!
